Chassis and Wheels

The chassis based on traditional timber hut has evolved through the introduction of gluelam timber beams. We opted for gluelam timber due to its exceptional strength and durability - whilst maintaining a smaller profile cross section.

Roof and Cladding

A key feature of any shepherd hut is the corrugated iron roof and walls. Whilst maintaining the look of a traditional shepherds hut, we have incorporated modern day construction techniques, enabling us to achieve a more satisfactory living/working environment.

The Hut Frame

We assemble the frame using timber frame house techniques, an exceptionally strong build method. It is also extremely weatherproof, and is carefully designed to keep the interior dry and healthy.
The frame itself is made from 69mm CLS timber and clad with a structural 9mm OSB board.
This braces the entire frame and alleviates racking, becoming extremely rigid when bolted to the gluelam chassis and roof structure. We strongly believe that this build method has evolved to being the best there is on the market. As with most things., It’s the detail that count.

Windows, Doors and Floors

We fit two cottage-style windows and a stable door within the base price. Both the windows and doors are purpose-made from seasoned hardwood. The windows are double-glazed, adding to the overall thermal and sound insulation properties within the hut. They can be painted or stained to a colour of your choice. All doors and windows are fitted with Anvil Ironmongery.

The hut floor is solid, a composite oak board, chosen for its stability and durability. It is secret nailed and finished with hard wax oil.

Wood Burners & Stoves

Hotpod
We use Hotpod stoves, designed and hand-built in St Ives in the far west of Cornwall and manufactured from recycled materials. They are created by artist and blacksmith Daniel Harding and are influenced by the Cornish environment. Designed with small spaces in mind, for use specifically in canal boats and shepherds huts. Each stove is unique and has its own name! The award-winning Hotpod combines form and function to make a unique contribution to our huts.

Esse Plus 1
Available in a choice of 20 colours, the Esse Plus 1 features a large fire box with glass door behind the outer cast iron door. This door has controls to adjust the fires burn rate and the clear glass allows you to enjoy watching the flames while more heat is let into the room. There are very few things more satisfying than cooking a meal using the heat of the a fire you have built yourself! The Esse Plus 1 when combined with optional back boiler will supply all your domestic hot water.
